♥ WATCHING THE CHANEL SPRING ‘12 SHOW OVER AND OVER
Maybe it has to do with the mesmerizing set in the mind-blowingly majestic Grand Palais in Paris? A pearlescent sea bed is littered with giant-size replicas of sea plants, small fish and delicate pebbles. Maybe it’s the luminous makeup the models are wearing? Bronzer has been swathed all over their bodies and faces to suggest baby-soft, mineralized skin. Small pearls dot their pristine faces like dew. Their hair is smoothed back as if it all had been neatly combed into sideparts while underwater.
It could be the Courreges-inspired mini-suits that harken back to an undersea future world, a la an old Jabberjaw cartoon. Or perhaps it’s Gui Boratto’s brand new tech house releases steadily pumping over the sound system. I really think I keep coming back for the moment at 9:11, when an innocuous-seeming clamshell opens to reveal FLORENCE WELCH singing “What the Water Gave Me.” (Like, WTF?? AMAZING!) I’m hooked on that moment for life, it seems.
