THE LEADING BLACKS

R.I.P. ZELDA KAPLAN
In my days as a nightlife reporter, I would often run into Zelda Kaplan and marvel at her zest for life. The same age as my own grandmother, Ms. Kaplan was still travelling, still hitting her favorite New York parties, and still being inspired by the styles of her favorite place in the world—Africa. She was an awesome lady who was just as at home in a room full of drag queens and club kids as she was at an established New York dining club. She literally did the most until the end, having collapsed while seated front row at a fashion show. She was 95. Somehow, I have a hunch that she’s on the list at whichever boite she hits on the Other Side.
